Since 2000, 12,000 families have been nationally supported through Computers in Homes. This section profiles the bold beginnings, the key drivers and the inspirational people who have made the programme possible.
Founding Mission and Goals
This educational intervention programme began as a pilot project in 1999, in the lowest-income community in the country, its purpose being to raise the literacy level of children from low decile schools. The aim of the 2020 Communications Trust (a registered charity) who launched the project is to provide a recycled computer, Internet access, training.
National Team
Since its inception in 1999, Computers in Homes has involved a team of committed people with energy and vision. Dianne Daniels (MEd., Dip Tchg., NZ Cert. Social Studies, SPELD Cert.) National Coordinator Di Daniels holds a Masters in Maori and Pacific Education from Victoria University of Wellington.
Regional Teams
Computers in Homes is a successful programme, providing essential support for parents of school-aged children who have not previously had the opportunity to develop their computer and internet skills to a level where they are confident in helping their children use digital technologies for learning.
Awards and Recognition
Awards and recognition received by Computers In Homes over the years. Finalist, IITP Excellence in IT: IT Education Award, 2014 The Computers in Homes team was recognised as one of three finalists for the inaugural IT Education Award at a gala event held in Auckland on Friday 10 October.
